Reminders and recommendations:
  • All staff and families should complete the BPS home health checklist before leaving for school.
  • We encourage everyone to get vaccinated as soon as they are eligible to receive the vaccine.
  • Stay vigilant about all health and safety procedures, including wearing a mask that fully covers your nose and mouth. This is the most important way we can all keep ourselves and one another healthy and safe.

Manning COVID-19 community notification policies

Pool testing happens every Thursday. Once the Manning has the pool test results (typically Friday afternoons), Ms. Clements will notify the entire school community of the results. If you do not get these notifications, please call (617) 635-8102.

Once the Manning is aware that someone who has tested positive COVID-19 has accessed the Manning School building:
  1. Those who tested positive will quarantine and be provided with specific next steps according to their situation and public health guidance.
  2. If your child was a close contact, you will be notified immediately.
  3. In the interest of safety and transparency, we send a notification to the entire Manning School community that someone has tested positive for COVID-19. Out of respect for the privacy of the affected individuals, we cannot share confidential details that would reveal identities.

Q&A follow up after the October COVID-19 cases

If there is anything we can do to answer your questions or offer support, please do not hesitate to reach out. (617) 635-8102

COVID safety practices (via BPS with Manning specifics added)

Pool testing
  • We do pool testing on Thursdays. 93% of Manning students have consented to participate in the pool testing.
  • Students who have had COVID-19 in past 90 days are not tested. We have an exempt list with dates on it showing when those students should return to pool testing.

Classroom set up
  • Students will need to maintain 3 feet of physical distancing between themselves and the teachers.
  • Whole class rug seating is no longer permitted.

Visitors in the building
  • Visitors are no longer allowed in BPS School Buildings.
    • Exceptions are limited to:
      • Student teachers
      • Clinical partners providing vaccine clinics
      • Partners who provide before, after, and school day services directly to/with students and who are already approved
      • Persons making needed deliveries to the schools
      • Facilities department contractors.
  • Parent/guardian conferences will need to be held remotely, via Zoom or phone.
  • Virtual meetings and gatherings should replace all in-person gatherings.

Cohorting
  • Schools are strongly encouraged to follow cohorting as much as possible to limit the number of students, teachers, and staff who come in contact with each other.  This doesn’t impact Manning as we have only one of each class.

Music, Field Trips, etc.
  • Lessons or activities involving choir, singing and the use and sharing of wind instruments are discontinued until further notice.
  • Field trips are not permitted until further notice.

Medical Waiting Room
  • The medical waiting room will be the small room to the left of the stage, when needed.

Breakfast/Lunch
  • Students should be 6 feet apart when eating. The spacing in the Manning cafeteria for lunch is adequate if students stay in their assigned spot.
  • Students should be masked any time they are out of their seats or not actively eating.

Snack breaks
  • If snack breaks are required, the same process as breakfast/lunch will be followed.
  • Eating outside is always preferred, but when not possible students may have snacks in the classroom only if students are at least 6 feet apart - this may mean taking turns eating.
